Scan Types

There are three different types of scan available;

1 "LibraryScan"
This is the most popular service. Your film is scanned to produce a 75Mb 8-bit RGB Tiff file or 150Mb 16-bit RGB Tiff file, cropped and colour-corrected. You can choose to have the file cleaned manually at 100% magnification to remove all dust and blemishes or left for you to do this yourself. I’ve prepared some guidelines to help you clean your images if you are new to this. If you know the basics of Photoshop you’ll find it quite straight forward, or you can choose to pay a bit extra and I’ll do it for you.

LibraryScan is perfect for submitting images to picture libraries, archiving your best work and for printing at home - LibraryScan files print at around A3+ (19" x 13") at 300dpi.

"MaxScan"
Your original is scanned at the maximum optical resolution supported for the film format to make an 8 or16-bit RGB Tiff File of between 180 and 500Mb. This is the one to choose if you use an editing package which supports 16-bit files (eg Photoshop CS or better), when you need a really big file - for a large print, or you just prefer to have your work scanned at maximum resolution for whatever future technology demands of it.

You can specify LibraryScan and MaxScans with or without post-scan cleaning

"AlamyScan"
This is an identical service to LibraryScan but always includes full manual post-scan cleaning. Your images are supplied as 8bit JPG files (Quality Level = 12) in line with Alamy's latest submission requirments.
