Infrared photography – at least for me – really encourages experimentation and creativity. You are never really sure what a particular image is going to look like, and the options for post-pocessing are so wide that its possible to go off in different directions to suit the subject.
In particular, I am using Lensbaby lenses, especially a Lensbaby Velvet, shooting into the light and very wide apertures to create an even more ethereal and other worldly look where the subject suits. The dreamy, fairytale image that emerges from a stack of adjustment layers in Photoshop can be stunning. Combine this with some hand-colouring and subtle washes and the sky is quite literally – the limit!
The next step is to experiment with texture overlays – but thats a whole different story.
