Infrared photography gives grass, trees and foliage an ethereal quality, and thats one of the effects I think we find pleasing as it shows us the world around us quite literally in another light. However, I think many infrared images are improved by the added structure and solidity of a building or two. These give us a sense of scale which infrared sometimes loses, and also something more solid and permanent around which the composition can be anchored.

Churches and churchyards have become a bit of a cliche when it comes to infrared imagery – but they look great and I find them hard to resist. However, I think most buildings look great rendered in infrared, especially in high contrast monochrome,  there is just something compelling about the crisp lines of a building against the softer shapes of nature.
